很多人在背2016考研單詞的時候不注意及時復習，往往一遍背完后也忘得差不多了。實際上，及時地復習有助于在單詞記憶上事半功倍。每天背新單詞之前應該拿出一部分時間來復習前一天學過的單詞。

★ extinguish

v.熄滅，消滅；使不存在

【例】The fire fighters extinguished the fire in the office building.消防員們撲滅了辦公樓里的大火。

【構詞】ex-（出）+ting（刺，引申為火焰）+uish→把火焰拿出來→熄滅

【同義替換】quench

【派生】extinguishable a.可熄滅的  extinguished a.熄滅的  extinguishment n.熄滅

【真題】If good people do nothing, there is a real possibility that an uniformed citizenry will extinguish the precious embers of medical progress.如果好人再不行動，有可能真會使無知的人們撲滅醫學進步中的珍貴火種。

★ gorgeous

a.華麗的；燦爛的；愉快的，極好的

【例】Charlie plays a simple but absolutely gorgeous melody.查理放了一首簡單卻非常歡快的曲子。

【構詞】gorge（峽谷）+-ous→峽谷是美麗的→絢麗的，華麗的

【同義替換】brilliant, wonderful, magnificent, superb

【派生】gorgeously ad.華麗地  gorgeousness n.華麗

★ imitate

v.模仿，仿效；仿造，偽造

【例】Decide what you want to do and do not just imitate others.想做什么自己決定，不要一味學別人。

【同義替換】mimic, mock, simulate; forge, counterfeit, fabricate

【派生】imitation n.模仿；仿造  imitative a.模仿的；仿造的

【真題1】Instead of describing sounds we must make up words that imitate them; we must use many sizes of type and different colored inks on the same page, and shorten or lengthen words at will.我們不應描繪聲音，我們必須造出模仿聲音的詞語；我們必須在同一張紙上使用不同型號和不同顏色的墨水，任意縮短或加長詞語。

【真題2】This is a subtle form of peer pressure: we unconsciously imitate the behavior we see every day.這是一種微妙的同齡人壓力的形式；我們會無意識地模仿我們每天所看到的行為。

★ occurrence

n.發生，出現；事件，事故，發生的事情

【例1】The study compares the occurrence of heart disease in various countries.這個研究對比了在不同國家心臟病發生的情況。

【例2】I do not want to see the similar occurrence.我不希望這種事再次發生。

【同義替換】happening

【真題】Satellites have extended the power of communications to report events at the instant of occurrence.人造衛星拓展了通訊能力，可以對事件進行現場報道。
